TOUR OF ORPHANAGE

On my second day here I was taken on a tour of Kidane Mihret. I met the two nuns in charge and was shown around the care home. There are so many babies and I cannot wait to start here tomorrow. I was taken there by three shared taxis and will attempt this journey on my own tomorrow. Catching a taxi here is very different than at home. They are mini vans that you share with twelve people. You ask before you get on if they are going to your next stop. The benefit of taking a shared taxi is the cost. It is 90 birr for each of my three taxis which is less than ten cents per trip.

Once home I took a nap as I was so tired. Later that evening when dinner was served the other volunteers and I had a great time talking about our days. They are Marijam (Switzerland). Maria (Denmark), and Sarah and Louise (London) Maria is here in the same capacity as me, Marijam is doing journalism and Sarah and Louise are physiotherapists.

I have learned that we have a much more western dinner around here. It is usually pasta or soup. For breakfast we always have bread and jam (I feel like Francis), lunch is a small container full of pasta and dinner is pasta, rice, potatoes and vegetables. No Protein, thank goodness I brought peanut butter. So many carbs.

All in all it was a great day, I look forward to tomorrow.
