COOKING IN ETHIOPIA

As I wrote before a very kind man from church has offered to let me cook in his kitchen. Let me tell you cooking here is very different from home. First of all I cannot tell you how many stores and stalls I went to to find all of the ingredients for a decent brunch, but I did it. My house mates went with me to the first store and then they went home. I carried on to another store but knew I needed to wait until the next morning to get fresh items and refrigerator items (Buster is taking all of the space at home) I got up early Saturday morning (January 9) and went to quite a few stores and stalls. We were to meet our host at a bridge by his house at 10:30 and walk the rest of the way. I was so excited. First I made chocolate chip cookie dough so it could set in the refrigerator for a while. I then made fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, french toast and fruit salad. It was so delicious I thought I would not be able to eat for days. We were not hungry until very late that evening. We watched some movies and ate the cookies - yummy!!! At 9:30 we headed out to get pizza but we had to go to three places before we found one open. We all crashed at his house, thank goodness he has three bedrooms and a living room. In the morning I made fruit salad and crepes - yummy!!!! I am excited to cook again. I am having taco seasoning sent from the states and an adoptive dad who went back to Ireland for two weeks is bringing me tortillas - taco night will be great!!!
