ETHIOPIAN CHRISTMAS

I got to celebrate two Christmas's this year and neither were like at home but since I am not at home that is the point. The day before when I arrived home from work there was a sheep tied to the tree in the garden. That evening we went out for pizza and to a club to listen to music and talk. When we got home that evening there was a rooster perched on the windowsill outside of the room we eat breakfast in, this is just next to my room. He was named Dave and the sheep Buster. They were very sweet and we were not to excited that they would become our dinner but at four in the morning when Dave decided to start waking everyone up, it did not take long for me to wish he had already met his maker. He let out his final squawk at 7:30 in the morning. We were told to be home from work at one for lunch. We were all surprised to find out just the four of us would be dining together (we have a new volunteer from Australia - Kimarny) We then met a friend for coffee and cards until we had to be home for dinner. We were told there would be a surprise at dinner. The surprise turned out to be Peter, he is the founder of Projects Abroad. After listening to all of the things that go on at Kidane he asked the Ethiopian director what he would have to do to take the orphanage over, apparently he did this in Cambodia. When I said over throw the Catholic church he decided to maybe open one of his own. He then came to Kidane the next day and had a meeting with sister Ludgarda but I have not heard the outcome of that meeting yet. Dinner turned out well and Buster was especially tasty. We will be eating him for a while as the rest of him sits unwrapped all over the refrigerator. After dinner there was a coffee ceremony and we were each given a traditional scarf, very nice. There were some lovely sweets as well. Ethiopian Christmas was different but very nice.
